Project Background

A metro operator managing multiple lines and dozens of stations needed a reliable, scalable solution to distribute broadcast announcements, real-time arrival and departure information, safety messages, and advertising content simultaneously across all station platforms and on-board train displays. The existing system lacked centralized control, suffered from signal degradation over long cable runs, and could not support the growing demand for 4K-quality visual content.

By deploying ORIVISION 4K Video Decoders directly into the PIS (Passenger Information System) hardware infrastructure, network IP streams are decoded with ultra-low latency and rendered seamlessly onto station and carriage screens in real time.

Customer Requirements

Multimedia Broadcasts

Flawless delivery of audio-visual announcements, schedules, and dynamic media.

Real-time Synchronicity

Instant display updates for next station arrivals and crucial timing info.

Multi-Screen Coverage

Large-scale network routing to screens distributed across kilometers of tracks and moving train carriages.

Centralized O&M

Streamlined remote management capabilities to eliminate frequent physical on-site maintenance.

24/7 Environmental Stability

Hardened performance to tolerate harsh, dusty, and high-vibration subway deployment environments.

System Topology

Supported Protocols

RTSP

UDP

HTTP

HLS

SRT

ONVIF

The network topology utilizes high-bandwidth Gigabit Ethernet backbones to link operations to the endpoints:

Control Center Side: Houses the core Broadcast Server, Streaming Server, and Management Platform. These elements aggregate the dynamic visual content feeds and forward them down the pipeline via a robust Network Switch into the IP Network infrastructure.

Stations & Trains Side (Endpoints): ORIVISION 4K Video Decoders pull specified IP streams directly from the local switches and output uncompressed, high-fidelity signals via HDMI onto terminal devices, including:

 Platform Displays for arrival countdowns and track directions.

 Announcement Displays dedicated to urgent public information notifications.

 Advertising Displays rendering scheduled monetization content layouts.

Solution Highlights

Real-time Decoding

Decode IP streams with ultra-low latency for real-time broadcast announcements and live arrival data. Passengers receive accurate information the moment it is published from the control center.

4K High Quality Output

Supports up to 4K@30Hz HDMI output, delivering sharp text rendering and vivid video playback on large-format station screens. Every detail — from timetables to safety graphics — is clearly readable.

Multiple Protocol Support

Fully compatible with RTSP, UDP, HTTP, HLS, SRT, and ONVIF — enabling seamless integration with existing broadcast servers, streaming servers, and third-party PIS management platforms without additional middleware.

Easy Remote Management

Web UI management, remote firmware upgrade, and centralized device control from a single dashboard. Maintenance engineers can diagnose and update all decoders across all stations without on-site visits, significantly reducing operational costs.

Industrial-Grade Reliability

Hardware engineered for continuous 24/7 operation in harsh environments — wide operating temperature range, high-humidity tolerance, and stable performance in the electromagnetic interference conditions typical of underground rail infrastructure.

Scalable IP Architecture

IP-based distribution over standard Gigabit Ethernet eliminates the need for dedicated coaxial or fiber infrastructure per screen. The system scales easily as the metro network expands — simply add decoders to the existing network.

Testimonials

Passengers receive accurate service updates, safety alerts, and emergency notices without delay across every station and train in the network

Clear and timely broadcast announcements
Real-time data feeds are decoded and displayed with sub-second latency, improving platform crowd management and reducing passenger confusion

Accurate next-station and arrival information
